Akpabio Commends Tinubu for Establishing New Tertiary Institutions in South-East
ABUJA — President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing into law the establishment of three new federal institutions in the South-East: the Federal College of Education, Bende (Abia State); the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Item Bende (Abia State); and the Federal University, Okigwe (Imo State).
In a statement issued Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, Senator Akpabio also praised the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu—sponsor of two of the bills—and other key stakeholders. These include Deputy Senate Whip, Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi; Deputy Minority Whip, Senator Osita Ngwu; and Senator Patrick Ndubueze, who sponsored the bill establishing the Federal University in Okigwe.
Akpabio commended their leadership, dedication, and commitment to the welfare of the people of the South-East.
He noted that the newly established institutions are aimed at enhancing access to quality education, advancing research, and improving healthcare outcomes across the region. Their establishment, he said, represents a critical step forward in addressing the region’s developmental needs.
“I commend President Tinubu for his inclusive leadership and strong commitment to the development of the South-East,” Akpabio said. “This move is not only strategic in terms of educational development, but it also serves as a healing gesture toward resolving long-standing grievances of marginalization in the region.”
He added that the establishment of these institutions would go a long way in fostering national unity, social inclusion, and regional development.
Akpabio lauded the lawmakers in both the Senate and the House of Representatives for their support in passing the bills and backing the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration.
“I urge the good people of the South-East to continue aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda and to strengthen strategic partnerships with the administration of President Tinubu,” Akpabio said, assuring that ongoing support from the region would attract further democratic dividends.
